Fitness Fun

Our physical education program includes yoga, brain gym and basic physical fitness.  Our fitness program is designed to be integrated into many aspects of the day for physical fitness, to develop motor skills and to regain focus.  Yoga is a daily exercise in the classroom and is enjoyed by all.  It enhances children’s flexibility, coordination, strength, balance, and body awareness.  It increases concentration and focus thus improving learning. The classrooms have a fitness area where students can go release some energy or refocus by doing some basic physical exercises or stretches. Brain gym is a series of basic body movements and exercises, it’s a combination of kinesthetic and yoga.  These movements are used to enhance the learning process, help concentration, focus, memory, and physical coordination as well as build self-esteem.  

Outdoor play helps students with balancing, throwing, kicking, catching, chasing, dodging, rolling, jumping and hoping.  Daily, there is a teacher directed outdoor activity, however, students are free to choose and play what they wish.  At an early age students need to make healthy choices, so showing and giving them choices help leads to a lifelong commitment to fitness and health.
